A Wide Variety

A wide variety - that's what I like to learn about. Almost every day, I spend about an hour reading different blogs and news pages about all sorts of things. I do realize that the variety is limited, however. I read some knitting blogs, but no crochet blogs. I read some geology blogs, but no oceanology blogs. I read news about astronomy and geology, but not about chemistry or physics. I read a couple theology blogs from a Reformed point of view, but none from an Arminian point of view. So, although there is a wide variety of subject matter, within that variety there are limitations.

I get weekly newsletters from Earth Observatory and NASA. I get a daily blurb from The South Beach Diet which contains all sorts of nutrition and exercise info, and a daily blurb from Knitty Today. I scan them quickly and if something jumps out at me, I read more in-depth. A lot of the time I just delete them (altho I'm trying to read South Beach completely, if for no other reason than it encourages me to cook more healthy for Mel - but usually because it's better for both of us!).

And of course, now that I've found her, I try to get a daily dose of Nancy Today, but that's in the evenings while Mel is reading or watching television. Usually.

Today on geology.com I found an interesting article about "Rainbow Beaches": Rainbow Beaches Around the World. It's a quick read with lots of pretty pictures (just what I love, all those pretty pictures!) of unusually colored beaches around the world. I've heard of most of them over the course of my life, but not all. Someday I would love to visit the black beaches in Hawaii (and of course! see the volcanos, which I read about in the geology blogs I follow). I would also like to see the pink beaches, but I'm not sure I really want to go to the Bahamas. I've seen the purple beaches in California but didn't realize at the time how unusual they are - therefore, I want to see them again and revel not just in their color, but the knowledge of their unusualness. :) And I really would like to see those green Australian beaches, but mostly I'd just really like to see Australia one day.

So many things to see. So much to know. So much to study.

I'm glad eternity is just around the corner!
