This Made My Evening :)

I checked the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo giraffe webcam this evening, not so see the giraffes, but to see how much snow is left from the storm they had over the weekend. Imagine my surprise when this is what I saw:

When I glanced down at the corner I saw this little guy:

Since the squirrelcam in North Pole, AK, is no longer working - it's a live television view now that I can't click on to save images :( - this little guy just made me happy and smiley. I have to have squirrel fix now and then.

Upon a little more searching, I found that they still have still photos updated every 2 minutes from a different camera. This is what I saw tonight, which is morning there. Check out that temperature!!!! The weatherunderground report is the same. The Squirrel Cam, January 6, 2008 -50 degrees F

Mel tells me that when he was a kid and they lived out on the homestead they used to pray that it would be -56 F in Fairbanks because then school was closed for the day. If it was -55 F, school was open. This was great for them because they lived on a hill out of town, above the ice fog, up where the air is a lot warmer. Sometimes it would be 30 or 40 degrees warmer! Then they would be free to play outside all day if they liked, rather than go to school.

My sister in Fairbanks told me a couple days ago that at her house, also outside of town and on a hill, it is much warmer than in town. While it was -30 F last week, she was a warm and toasty -8 F. :) :) It really does make a huge difference. Trust me!

Oh Those Squirrels!

My sister is so funny. Today she sent me an email with photo attached: "thought of you IMMEDIATELY and had to take this pic....just for YOU :) :) :)" This little guy is in her window bird feeder, up there in the frozen 'wilds' of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Why did she send me that? Why did she think of me immediately?

Heh heh. When we are talking via instant messaging, I often check the squirrel cam in North Pole, Alaska, which is just a few miles south of where she lives. If there is a good photo, I save it and send it to her, like the following one I saw the other day. She knows now, she's caught on - she asks before she downloads them. "Is this another squirrel???" If the answer is yes, she doesn't download it :(, she tells me she already can see as many squirrels as she wants to see. Me? Well, there are no squirrels in our part of Ukraine, sad to say - except in cages brought in from other places. I hate to see them in cages, tho - squirrels should be FREE! :) :) Now tell me, who would not want to download a picture as cute as this little guy is?
